Russell J. Adams, 82, a native of White Castle and a resident of Plaquemine, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2009, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was married for 37 years to Elizabeth Gerace Adams. He was a veteran of the South Pacific during World War II. He was an aviation ordnanceman third class and served as a ball turret gunner on a B-24 as part of Fleet Photographic Squadron 4. Visitation at the St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Plaquemine Friday, Feb. 27, at 8 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Entombment in Grace Memorial Park, Plaquemine. Services will be conducted by the Rev. Cleo Milano. While Russell had no children of his own, he helped raise the five children of his sister, Mercedes, when their father was killed in an oil field explosion in 1956. Russell was a member of the American Legion and the Addis Veterans of Foreign Wars. He participated in the Westside Honor Guard. He retired after 30 years of service with City Glass as an upholstery man. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Gerace Adams; a sister, Myrtle Adams Hebert; nephews, George Jumonville Jr., George Guy Adams Jr., Hardy Paul Hebert Sr. and Elmer Bourgeois Jr.; nieces, Judy Jumonville Poche, Carolyn Adams Walton, Linda Adams Ostendorf, Ellen Adams Cook, Georgette Adams Karl, Julie Bourgeois Gassen and Debra Bourgeois Gomez; and numerous great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Preceded in death by mother and father, Paul and Cora Orillion Adams; sisters, Florence "Sudie" Adams Jumonville and Mercedes Adams Bourgeois; brother, George Guy Adams Sr.; nephews, Louis Samuel Hebert Jr. and John Felix Bourgeois; nieces, Mary Jane Hebert and Barbara Bourgeois Acheé.
