Funeral services for the late W. Brookner, aged 79 years, pioneer business executive of Globe and former county official of Gila County, will be held from Jones Funeral Home at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
The funeral service will be conducted by the Rev. O.J. Rainey, vicar of St. John's Episcopal church, and services at the grave will be conducted by officials of the Globe Elks Lodge.
The late Mrs. Brookner died Wednesday morning at 1 o'clock . His daughter, Mrs. J.D. Wick, Phoenix, and her husband were with him at the time of his death. He had not been ill but had complained of not feeling well several times during the week.
Death Causes General Sorrow
News of the death of Mr. Brookner called forth memories of the olden times in Globe when he was an active building of the community, and a general feeling of sorrow and regret from the general public by whom he was greatly beloved for his many fine qualities.
Mr. Brookner was born at Dixon, Ill., Aug. 9, 1860. He came to Globe in 1881, entering the employ of the Old Dominion Commercial company, organized by the late Governor Geo. W.P. Hunt.
In 1899 Mr. Brookner organized the W.W. Brookner company, operating a large department store in Globe, and was active in its affairs.
Served Six Treasurer Terms
Mr. Brookner was elected county treasurer of Gila county in November, 1888, and served one term. He served a second term from Jan. 1, 1905 to Jan. 1907. He served tow successive terms from Jan. 1, 1917 to Jan.1, 1921, and two additional successive terms from Jan. 1, 1925 until Jan. 1, 1929, six terms in all.
He also served one term as state examiner, receiving his appointment from Governor Hunt.
Mr. Brookner was also concerned in many other civic and fraternal activities.
He served as secretary of the Arizona Pioneers association for a number of terms. He was a trustee of the Globe Elks Loge at the time of his death.
Office Manager At Death
At the time of his death he was office manager for the Whalley Lumber company and appeared to be almost as active and efficient as in earlier days.
Henry Steven Warner, grand exalted ruler of Elks, is his nephew.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Laura Wick, Phoenix, and Mrs. Bessie Andrews, Nevada City, Calif.
