Evening Times, Cumberland, Maryland, Tuesday 23 Sep 1913: " Mrs. Catherine Laing

The funeral of Mrs. Catherine Laing, who died at her bungalow out on the mountain yesterday afternoon, will take place on Thursday morning. She will be buried in SS. Peter and Paul's Cemetery.

Mrs. Laing was a daughter of the late George and Theresa Long. She was a most aggressive woman and following the death of her husband handled his large estate with tact and much success. She was left large property interests, including many lots in the Laing addition and on Washington street extended.

Mr. Laing conducted a large wholesale grocery here, which was continued following his death. Mrs. Laing was very charitable. She donated the site of the present tuberculosis sanitarium to the Civic Club.

Mrs. Laing is survived by two sons, Frederick and George M. Laing, Mrs. Marie Theresa Laing, New York; Miss Victoria Laing, known as Sister Magdaline of the Sisters of Mercy, Baltimore, and Miss Lillian Laing.

Mrs. Geo. A. Reinhard and Mrs. Michael L. Welsel are sisters and Messrs. George L. and Peter H. Long and Francis J. Long, of Clarksburg, W. Va., are brothers.

The pallbearers will be J. L. Griffith, F. L. Grandel, George Gessner, J. W. S. Cochrane, Hugh A. McMullen, Dr. J. Jones Wilson."
