Dean A. Higby, 86, of Greig Road, died Saturday February 21, 2009 at Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, Lowville.

Mr. Higby was a bus driver for 41 years for General Martin School and South Lewis Central School, where he also was a custodian at Greig School. With the closing of Greig School, he became the custodian at General Martin School, retiring in 1985.

Born Feb. 6, 1923, at home in Glenfield, son of Alfred and Louise Rennie Higby, he attended Glenfield and General Martin schools.

He married Shirley Blade on June 30, 1944, at the home of the Rev. William J. Dobbie, Martinsburg.

He enjoyed fishing with his family, hunting, raising cows, heifers and horses and camping at Stony Lake.

Surviving besides his wife are a son and his wife, Lyndon and Maryann, Leesburg, Fla.; a daughter and her husband, Judy and Philip DeLong, Glenfield and Port Orange, Fla.; a daughter-in-law, Linda G. Higby, Mexico; a sister, Althea Patterson, Smethport, Pa., and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

A son, Burton B. Higby, died Aug. 15, 2006. Two brothers, Dayton and Dorrance, also died before him.

The funeral will be at the family's convenience at Iseneker Funeral Home with the Rev. Bruce W. Chapman, retired minister, officiating.

Spring burial will be in Old Glendale Cemetery.

There will be no calling hours.

Donations may be made to Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, in care of the activities fund, 7785 N. State St., Lowville, N.Y. 13367.
