Ellen was born to Gerald G. and Florence Schroer Otte. She married Richard L. "Rick" Black on March 24, 1984, at St. Paul Lutheran Church-Borchers in Seymour, Ind. He passed away July 29, 2001, in Peoria.
She was also preceded in death by her father and one nephew.
She is survived by her mother, Florence Otte; and three daughters, Anna (Ryan) Ragains, Kimberly Black and Melody Black; one granddaughter, Kamryn Ragains; two brothers, Norman (Edie) Otte and Carvin (Julie) Otte; one sister, Leah Otte (Robert) Smith; one niece; six nephews; and one great-niece.
Ellen owned and operated her own day care in Peoria, where she was known to all the kids as Grandma Ellen. Prior to that she worked at CDC.
