Funeral services for Gordon Hanson, 94, were held Tuesday at Calvary Free Lutheran Church in Arlington with the Rev. Stere Mundfrom officiating. Burial was at the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at Oldham. He died Jan. 6, 2001, at Brookings Hospital. He was born Aug. 3, 1906, to Albert and Ollana (Lee) Hanson in Whitewood Township at Oldham. He graduated from Oldham High School in 1923. He attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls for a year and graduated form Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. He worked in several lumber yards in Minnesota and was manager of Lampert Lumber in Langdon, N.D. He married Mabel Olson in 1939. He was a carpenter in Salt Lake City, Utah, and Bend, Ore. He entered the Army during World War II and served in England, France, Belgium, Germany and the Philippines until his discharge in 1945. He and his wife moved to Lake Preston in 1946 where he opened a carpentry shop. In 1958, they moved to Sturgis and then to Alaska and Seattle, Wash. His wife died in 1974. He returned to Lake Preston in 1986 and married Selma Hanson on Oct. 25, 1986. He was active in his church for many years. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, John Anderson of Brandon; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Menholt of Canton; six step grandchild; four step great grandchildren; and a sister, Alice Berry of Austin, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, three brothers and five sisters. Johnson Henry Funeral Chapel in Lake Preston was in charge of arrangements.
