Emily Fort Baker was the daughter of Elias Fort & Jane Hargis. The family came from North Carolina to Howard Co., Missouri sometime before 1829. Elias Fort and his family were living in Randolph Co., MO in the 1830 census. Emily's mother Jane may have died on the trip or shortly after arriving in Missouri. Elias remarried to Nancy Foster and Emily and her brother Urban were raised by their father & step-mother. Emily married Commodore Perry Baker about 1838. They were the parents 7 daughters - Matilda Jane, Lucinda, Rebecca M., Nancy Leticia, Margaret Emily, Sarah Louisa and Hannah Narcissa.

Emily was buried at Oxford Bend Cemetery and her husband was buried at Goshen Cemetery. Oxford Bend is on private land, & the cemetery is abandoned and over grown. One needs permission from the landowner to go into the cemetery. It is in the middle of a pasture & is fenced. The cemetery is off highway 45 (W. Bowen Blvd) between Fayetteville and Goshen on the north side of the highway.
