Miss Lorene Barfknecht and Carl Thomsen drove to Topeka Wednesday where they were married by Rev. McCracken, formerly pastor of the Beulah church (sic). After the ceremony they continued on a short wedding trip to Calumet, Okla., where they spent the weekend at the home of Carl's sister, Mrs. LeRoy Stanley and family. This community offers congratulations to this young couple.

Ellen Lorene Meyer, daughter of William F. and Bernice J. (Hoins) Barfknecht, was born April 20, 1922, at rural Bostwick, Nebraska, and passed away Monday, December 18, 1995, at her home in Superior, Nebraska, at the age of 73 years, 6 months and 28 days. She lived on a farm in Nuckolls County all her life.

In 1938, Lorene was baptized and joined the Beulah Reformed Presbyterian Church. She attended Pleasant Ridge District #80 School for her elementary education and graduated from Superior High School in May of 1940. Lorene taught rural school in Nuckolls County, two years at Abdal and one year at Red Line, west of Nelson, Nebraska.

November 25, 1942, Lorene was united in marriage at Topeka, Kansas, to Carl E. Thomsen. Three children, Ron, Cheryl and Neil, were born to this union. On August 17, 1957, Carl died.

December 2, 1958, at Superior, Nebraska, Lorene married Elmer J. Meyer. One daughter, Yvonne, was born to this union.

She was a 4-H member and leader in the Alban 4-H Club. At the time of her death, Lorene was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Superior Area Retired Teachers and Abdal Club.

Preceding her in death, besides her first husband, were her parents and one brother, Kenneth Barfknecht.

Survivors include her husband Elmer of Superior, Nebraska; four daughters, Carol Mueller and her husband Glen of Nelson, Nebraska, Cheryl Russell and her husband Arden of Mankato, Kansas, Sharon Dickinson and her husband Doug of Seward, Nebraska, and Yvonne J. Meyer and her husband Stuart Price of Joplin, Missouri; three sons, Ron Thomsen and his wife Marilyn of Fresno, California, Delmer Meyer and his wife Mary of Concordia, Kansas, and Neil Thomsen and his wife Barbara of Superior, Nebraska; one sister, Norma Iburg and her husband Don of Austin, Texas; one brother, Everett Barfknecht and his wife Nila of Nelson, Nebraska; three sisters-in-law, Irene Barfknecht, Elsie Meyer and Edith Meyer, all of Superior, Nebraska; 20 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, December 22, 1995, at 2 p.m. from Salem Lutheran Church, rural Superior, Nebraska, with Pastor Michael Osberg officiating. Music was provided by Alfred and Janell Hanson singing with Virginia Drohman as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Craig Barfknecht, Lee Barfknecht, Matt Dickinson, Nathan Mueller, Eric Thomsen, Stan Meyer, Chris Saunders, Chris Thomsen, Tyler Dickinson and Jeffrey Thomsen. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery near Superior, Nebraska. Megrue-Price Funeral Home of Superior was in charge of the arrangements.
