HAWKINS - Mr. Joe Hawkins, father of Mr. Thomas Hawkins, of this county died at his home in Alton Saturday. He settled there when 27 years of age and has been in business there continuously since then. He was seventy three years of age and a member of the Presbyterian church. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. James Collier, of Danville and Mrs. Warren McCowan, of Alton, and two sons, Messrs. Thomas Hawkins, of this city, and Herbert Hawkins, of Alton. The deceased was very highly respected by all who knew him. (Published in The Harrodsburg Herald, Harrodsburg Ky., Friday, August 18, 1922)

Joe was the son of Nathaniel "Nathan" Hawkins & Martha Ann Chance (married 18 Oct. 1845 in Mercer Co. Ky.) J.A. Hawkins married 2 Jan. 1873 in Mercer Co. Ky., Sallie Burns.

Note - His death certificate lists his occupation as Blacksmith.
