Born in 1833 to parents Daniel Jacobs, Sr. (b. 1807 in OH; farmer) and Sarah A. Neely (1809-1849).

Charles Jacobs was a farm laborer. Shortly after the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861, he joined the Heth Rifles of the Harrison County Home Guard. When the 38th Indiana Infantry regiment was organized that fall, Charles enlisted in Co. B. He was officially mustered into service on Sept. 18, 1861. He received a discharge in Apr. 1862.

Jacobs married Miss Margaret Elizabeth Robbins (1845-1934) on Apr. 9, 1863 in Harrison Co., IN. Together they had the following children:
Sarah Jane (1866-1911)
Mary C. (b. 1869)
Henry H. (b. 1870)
Daniel L. (b. 1875)
Eliza E. (b. 1879)

Charles was a member of Indiana G.A.R. Post #507. He also applied for a federal pension on Sept. 10, 1874 (app. #195,969; cert. #739,121 – Indiana).
