Alma Rogers Lee, Sr. 88, of Wittmann, passed away Sept. 20, 2002. A.R. Lee was born March 8, 1914 on the Lee Plantation near Wildwood, Fla. He drove street cars and buses for the City of Phoenix for many years. He was a licensed contractor, who started the Copper State Roofing and Copper State Electric companies, and was a broker for the Sellwell Realty Co. and was one of the founders of Wittmann, Ariz., near Sun City West. He ran for Mayor of Phoenix and for the House of Representatives. He was missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Gila Indians, Avondale and Wittmann. He was well known for his generosity, honesty, and hard work. He and his wife Audrey had just celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on Aug. 31, 2002. They had seven children, Alma Rogers Lee, Jr., Joseph W. Lee, Delbert J. Lee, Cynthia (Lee) Bankston, Lydia (Lee) Sanders, Reed A. Lee and Robert E. Lee. Two of his brothers and sisters are still living, Laura Johnson and Alice Stanley. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Wickenburg at 10 a.m., viewing at 9 a.m. Interment will be in the Wittmann Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by Frey Funeral Home.
