Sylvia Virginia Painter Berry, 72, of Luray, passed away Tuesday, Feb 10, 2009, at the home of her daughter in Harrisonburg.
Mrs. Berry was born in Rockingham County on Jan 3, 1937 and was the daughter of the late Gilbert and Ardath Shuler Painter. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 38 years, Howard Eugene Berry, on Jan 31, 1996.
Mrs. Berry graduated from Madison College in 1957 and taught in the Chesterfield County School System for over 20 years. Along with her husband, together they built,owned and operated the Berry Patch on Massanutten Mountain for 15 years. Sylvia was a member of the AARP and the Modern Woodman of America.
She is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia Ann Taylor of Richmond, Donna Berry Edwards of Chesterfield and Kimberly Berry Griffith and husband, Robert of Harrisonburg; a brother, Alvin A Painter of Richmond; three grandchildren, Sarah A Taylor, Jonathan A Taylor and Katherine M Edwards; a number of nieces and nephews and a lifelong friend, William C Seal of Shenandoah.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb 13, 2009, at the Kyger Funeral Home in Elkton with C. Wayne Nicholas of Harrisonburg officiating.
Burial will follow at Rest Haven Cemetery in Shenandoah.
The family will receive friends this evening (Thursday) from 7-9 at the funeral home.
