Mrs. Catherine Markway, 77 year old mother of Assistant Chief of Police Ben Markway, and Cole County Collector Al Markway, died last night in her home in Wardsville. She had suffered a broken in a fall September 3 of last year and since then had been bedfast. Her death was attributed to pneumonia. Born at Taos, October 15, 1861, she was married to Fred M. Markway August 10, 1880. She had been a resident of the Taos and Wardsville communities all her life.
Mrs. Markway was a member of the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church at
Wardsville and had played an important role in the advancement of the parish. She was also a member of the Married Ladies Sodality and prominent in other church organizations.
Surviving are her husband and ten children: Henry, Frank, Ben and Joe of Jefferson City, Fred C., Jr. of Wardsville, Mrs. Louis Mehmert, Chamois, Mrs. Roy Stockman, Wardsville, Mrs. Jake Kolb, Jefferson City, Mrs. Leo DeBroeck, Wardsville, and Al Markway of Wardsville. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Rose Williams of Wardsville, 59 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at the St. Stanislaus Church Sunday morning at 10 o'clock.
