Mrs. Eliza Bethea Dies Tuesday Night At Home
Daughter
Mrs. Eliza Jane Bethea passed away at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday night at the age of 84 years following a prolonged illness. She was born in 1862 at Sugar Valley, Gordon County, Georgia.
She came to Rockdale in 1877 and soon after met and married Dr. Dave Lee, a pioneer physician of this section who became a familiar character as he rode over the territory making calls on patients. There were three children born to this union.
Following the death of Dr. Lee she later was married to J. C. Bethea in 1890. There were also three children born of this union but all of her children preceded her in death save one daughter, Mrs. R. F. Pairett, of Rockdale, with whom she made her home for the past four years.
Mrs. Bethea was a member of the Full Gospel faith for many years but had not been active in the church due to age and ill health.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from Phillips & Luckey chapel with Rev. C. Edward Fraim officiating. Burial was made at Sandy Creek cemetery.
Three survive beside the daughter, Mrs. Pairett, the two sisters, Mrs. W. M. Simpson of Temple, and Mrs. Edd Farney of Westwood, California; four brothers, M. J. Talley of Houston, J. H. Talley of Waller, R. L. Talley of Beaumont, B. F. Talley of Temple. There are a number of grandchildren, great grand-children, and several step-sisters and step-brothers.
