Dad was born in Jerseyville, IL to Andrew Jackson Brown and Alice Latona (Poor) Brown. He is one of six children born to them. Around the age of six his mother packed up all the kids and moved to Cherokee, OK. I have always wondered why she left her husband and moved all the kids to Oklahoma. Aunt Alice thought she wanted to be close to her mother as the mother was ill. I now believe, from the newspaper articles I found I know why. Her husband Andrew having had a bad childhood, did not improve as an adult. He was in trouble with the law for making and selling moonshine. Drunk and disorderly often. Having had enough I think she needed her family support and they were all in Oklahoma. While in OK. hard times hit and Alice place four of the children in The Western Oklahoma Orphanage for White Children in Helena, Ok. They were there for about five years. I was told that she would visit on weekends and sometimes they went home for the weekends. However, my dad did not like it there. Ran away often.
Dad married December 3, 1942 to Zona Mae Mosshart in Alva OK. They were married 54 years before he passed away. He served in the Air Force for a short time with an Honorable Discharge.
Dad had many jobs but found his place with the Boilermakers, retiring in 1985 as the General Foreman at the Byron Nuclear Power Plant. Buster was also a 32 Degree Mason with the Frank N. Nicol Lodge 1170, AF&AM, in Creve Coeur, IL
Father of three sons and three daughters all living
