LT Ken Bass was a Navy Helicopter pilot attached to Helicopter Attack (Light) Squadron Three, HA(L)-3 in Vietnam where he was awarded 16 Air Medals; Presidential Unit Citation; National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (w/2 bronze stars); Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation; Vietnam Civil Actions Unit Citation; and Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Ken was later attached to HT-8 in Pensacola, where he was killed flying a TH57 helicopter which lost a blade over Mobile, AL with another HA(L)-3 Pilot: LTJG William Frederick Sigler

Ken has a half brother Sam Robert Bass
