Joe C. Lopez, age 75, a resident of Las Vegas, N.M. and former resident of Gonzales Ranch passed away on Monday Jan.26, 2009 at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas, N.M.
He was born in Gonzales Ranch, N.M., on Aug. 17, 1933, to the late Martin Lopez and Rosalia Sena Lopez.
He was united in marriage in 1957 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas, N.M. to Bessie C. Vigil.
He worked for Safeway for several years as a cashier and merchandise stocker. He liked ranching, tending to his horses and working cattle.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Martin an Rosalia Lopez, brothers: Trinidad Lopez, Manuel Lopez and Rudolpho Lopez Sr.
He is survived by his wife: Bessie Vigil of Los Montoyas, N.M.; sister: Piedad Blea and husband Max and Julia Aragon all of Portales, N.M.; brother: Zenon Lopez and wife Pina of Canyon, Texas; sister-in-laws: Josefina Lopez of Canyon, Texas, Ramona Lopez of Mule Shoe, Texas, Nea Trujillo and husband Filé of Las Vegas, N.M., Josie Ulibarri and husband George of Santa Rosa, N.M., Rose Lucero and husband Tito of Manzanola, Colo. and Corrine Salas and husband Joe of Clovis, N.M.; brother-in-laws: Luis Vigil of Amarillo, Texas; Richard Vigil and wife Carol of Portales; Albert Vigil and wife Mary of Rocky Ford, Colo. and Leo Vigil of Los Montoyas; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
Rosary devotional services will be conducted this evening at 7 at Rogers Mortuary Chapel, Las Vegas, N.M. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday morning at 9 at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father C. John Brasher as celebrant.
Interment will follow at Gonzales Ranch Cemetery in Gonzales Ranch with the following serving as casket bearers: Richard Vigil Jr., James Vigil, Johnny Sena, Alex Garcia, Gilbert Aragon, Joseph Blea, Danny Vigil and David Vigil.
