John Lewis Barton, 54 years old, a native of Cowley county and for over 33 years an employe of the Ramsey-Davis mercantile Company, died at 10:30 o'clock this morning in Mercy hospital. The cause pnenumonia.

Mr. Barton was injured Aug. 17 while at work on the loading platform at the wholesale grocery, when he slipped and fell between the platform and a motor truck. In the accident he received two fractured ribs and minor injuries. Ten days ago, pnenumonia developed as a result of the injuries to his ribs and a lung. His home was at 1217 North D street.

Mr. Barton's work with Ramsey-Davis was in the shipping department, and Clarence E. Beck, geneeral manager, today paid tribute to him in these words: "He was always been a faithful employee, striving at all times to give satisfactory service. He will be greatly missed from the Ramsey-Davis family."

Mr. Barton was born near Burden, and had lived in Arkansas City nearly all his life. He was a member of the A. O. U. W. and Maccabee lodges.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Orah Barton; six children; Walter A.; Harry L.; Gregg, Robert S. Barton; Mrs. Ida Olson and Mrs. Dorothy Bowman, all of ths city; one step-daugher Mrs. George A. Hermann, Topeka; four brothers; W. A. Barton, Santa Ana, Cal.; James Barton, Wichita; Garfield and Blaine Barton, of west of this city; two sisters; Mrs. Frank Smith, rural route No. 4 and Mrs. E. O. Davenport, Cashion, Okla. and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services are to be held at 10:30 o'clock Wednesday morning in the Central Christian church. Rev. C. D. Walker will officiate. Burial will be in Mercer cemetery, west of the city. The Grant Funeral Home is in charge.
