EUGENE P. "GENE" AKOM
SCOTT - Eugene P. "Gene" Akom, 71, of Scott, died at 3:45 p.m. Saturday in Van Wert Manor Nursing Home following an extended illness.
He was born March 13, 1908, in Van Wert County, a son of Daniel and Minnie (Diehl) Akom.
On Nov 20, 1926, he married the former Marcile Gause. She preceded him in death on Nov. 9, 1976.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Richard (Rebecca) Ladd of Cloverdale, Mrs. Raymond (Jean Alice) Mullen and Mrs. Robert (Mary) Tarlton, both of Scott; six sons, Danny of Marion, Maurice of Haviland, Robert, James, Donald L. and Richard Akom, all of Scott; a brother, Samuel Akom of 1011 Prospect Ave.; a sister, Mrs. Olive Everett of Venice, Fla.; 18 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Also preceding him in death was a brother and a granddaughter.
Mr. Akom retired in 1973 from Continental Can Co. following 26 years of service. He was a member of Pentacostal Church, Scott.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the church with the Rev. Murlin Leonard and the Rev. Von Saum officiating. Burial will be in Scott Cemetery.
Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. today and after 2 p.m. Tuesday in Alspachs.
Preferred memorials are to the church.
