He was an employee of the Richland Parish Police Jury.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Church of Christ near Archibald, Hudson Nichols officiating. He was assisted by Stanley Fortenberry.
Interment was in the Rayville Masonic Cemetery, under direction of the First National Funeral Home of Winnsboro.
The body lay in state at the family residence east of Archibald until time of services.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Doris Ponder; two daughters, Mrs. T. C. Boyer, of Bastrop, and Mrs. Garland Storey, Jr., of Arcadia; three sons, Douglas Ponder, Johnny Ponder and Jimmy Ponder, all of Rayville, Route 1; two granddaughters, two half-brothers, John Bradshaw, of Monroe, and Russell Bradshaw, of Archibald; two sisters, Mrs. Clarence Robertson, of Archibald, and Mrs. Cephus Phillips, of Polkville, Miss.; one half-sister, Mrs. J. B. Smith, of Archibald; one step-brother, Homer Bradshaw, of Rayville; three step-sisters, Mrs. Zelma Odom and Mrs. Zula Rowlin, both of Rayville, and Mrs. Mitta Odom, of Tchula, Miss.
Pallbearers were Dave Smith, Clayton Phillips, Cleo Graham, Braxton Williams, B. R. Noah and G. R. Downes. All parish employes were honorary pallbearers.
