(LAGRANGE) Jesse Osborne, 35, of LaGrange, Ga., has been charged with murder in connection with the death last Sunday night of R. J. Fant, also of LaGrange, whose body was found on the highway near Opelika according to information released by Sheriff Jesse Linch who investigated the case.
Fant's body was discovered, Sheriff Linch said, after it had been struck by a truck. An autopsy revealed, he added, that the man was dead before the truck struck the body and apparently was killed by a heavy blunt object.
Fant was a brother of Ray Fant, Lanett, Ala., shot fatally 10 days ago near Opelika. Linch said Wash Smith, Lee County farmer, charged with Ray Fant's slaying, had been released under bond and that "there is no connection" between the two deaths.
