Calvin Luther Gill was the son of William C. and Harriet Gill of Lee County, GA. William served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, was a member of the Georgia State House of Representatives in 1871 and in the Georgia State Senate in 1890. William was a farmer and was married three times--to Harriet, Nancy Morgan, and Eliza F. Childers. Calvin grew up in a large family. His siblings included Martha Ellen, Peter Pyphus, John Forsythe, twins Sarah Arabella & Leah Arvilla, Burmah Eugenia, Harriet Elizabeth, Josehine, California, William Perry, Rachel, and Lou A. Gill.

Calvin worked on farms in Georgia, Texas, and Oklahoma. He married Susan Bodiford Gill in Georgia, and they had five children--Harriet, Sarah, Anna, and twins Flora and Florence. After Susan's death, Calvin remarried in 1885. He and Fannie had children--William Luther, Robert Hardy, Susan Jesse, and Ellen F. Gill. They lived in Navarro County, TX, for many years, but by 1910 they had moved to Cleveland County, OK. After Calvin died in 1914, Fannie lived with her son Luke in Noble, OK.
