Born October 20, 1915 in Petersburg, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Celia Denham, Scales.
Mrs. Underwood graduated from Petersburg High School in 1933. She lived most of her life in Connersville where she attended Central Christian Church. Formerly, she was a bookkeeper at the Durbin Hotel, managed Herbert's Trailer Court, worked at Fayette Memorial Hospital as a Nurses Aid, managed the Elks kitchen and worked at American Kitchens during WWII.
Survivors include one daughter, Mary R. Cook of Connersville; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and her companion of 36 years, Max Tague.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Chester Coe, and her second husband Tom Underwood, as well as two brothers, Bill Scales and Earl Scales, and four sisters, Sis Lowe, Gladys Moore, Beulah Scales and Lucille Steer. Funeral Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 17 at the Urban Winkler Funeral Home in Connersville with Rev. Eugene Spicer officiating. Graveside burial will be in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Petersburg, Indiana on at 1 p.m. Central Standard Time Wednesday. Friends may call at the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Tuesday.

I remember Ruth when I worked at the Durbin Hotel in Rushville as a Soph & Junior in High School.
