Bushnell, Elizabeth Prendergast
SANTA ROSA, CALIF. - Elizabeth Prendergast Bushnell, age 96, passed away in Santa Rosa on Tuesday, July 13, 2004. A native of Madison, Wis., she was a resident of Santa Rosa for 40 years. She was the daughter of Thomas F. Prendergast who was the founder of the Madison Candy Company 100 years ago. The site is now a Wisconsin state historic landmark in the Third Lake Ridge Historic District. Her mother, Anna Dunn, died when Elizabeth was just 8 years old. Elizabeth received a Ph.D. in botany from the University of Wisconsin and taught briefly. She was married to the late Ralph J. Bushnell of Petaluma; they divorced in the 1980s. She was the mother of James Judson of Solana Beach, Calif., and Ralph William of MiWuk and Laguna Woods, Calif.; grandmother of Carl J. Bushnell of Porterville, Calif., Beverly Swingle of Escondido, Calif., Roxanne Bybee of Littleton, Colo., Cynthia Berigan of Arlington Heights, Ill., Sara Jackson of La Canada, Calif., James B. Bushnell of Piedmont, Calif., and Melissa Nelson of Hudson; and great-grandmother of 14. She was preceded in death by her sons, Frank Thomas and Dr. Donald Edward. At her request no formal services will be held. Her ashes will be scattered at sea outside the Golden Gate Bridge
