Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in the First Baptist Church at Snyder for Tommy Ray Adams, 67, of Snyder. Adams died Tuesday, December 18 at 1:15 p.m. from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Kiowa County deputy sheriff Floyd Hopkins said Adams was found about 100 yards west of his Snyder home and the county medical examiner had ruled the death as a suicide.
Hopkins said Adams had left a note stating he was in bad health and couldn't stand the pain anymore. He had called his brother-in-law shortly before his death asking him to come to the house. A 20 guage shotgun was found next to the body.
Burial will be at Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Preston-Leckie Funeral Home.
Adams was born Jan. 9, 1917 west of Snyder. He was the son of the late Bert and Grace Adams. He grew up in the Snyder community and attended school here. After serving in the Army during World War II, he operated a paint and body shop in Snyder for 35 years.
He married Pauline Phillips here on October 17, 1959.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of the home; one daughter, Norma Miller, Wichita Falls, TX; two sisters, Bessie Dillingham, Grandfield and Edna Hash, Mountain Park; one brother, Roy Adams, Lawton; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren."
