Nellie Rose Bennett, 92, Nucla, died Dec. 5, 2008, at the Paonia Care Rehabilitation Center.

Services will take place at 11 a.m. Thursday at Nucla Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Leland of Phoenix, and Ray of Blairsden, Calif.; three daughters, Bonnie Rose Short of Paonia, Elaine J. King of Carbondale and Hazel A. Holdridge of Craig; one sister, June Littlejohn of Nucla; 19 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and 32 great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions to the Nucla Naturita Ambulance Fund, Nucla 81424.

Lifetime Nucla resident, Nellie Rose Bennett, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 5, 2008, at Paonia Care Center in Paonia, Colorado. She was 92 years of age. A funeral service honoring Nellie's life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 11, 2008, at the Nucla Cemetery, with Reverend Russ Tyler and the Women of the Moose presiding.

Nellie Rose Rice was born to Frank George Rice and Dessie Adele Sage on June 28, 1916, in Nucla, Colorado. She spent her childhood and graduated from high school in Nucla. On November 21, 1934, Nellie married the love of her life, Asa Lee Bennett in Grand Junction, Colorado. Nellie and Asa raised six children and had celebrated over 44 years of love and marriage together. Asa preceded Nellie in death in 1978.

Nellie was a loving wife and mother. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Nucla Garden Club, and a lifetime member of the Second Park Sewing Club. Her interests included sewing, crocheting, collecting dishes and dolls, and she loved her rose gardens.

Nellie is survived by two sons, Leland Bennett and his wife, Donna of Phoenix, AZ; and Ray Bennett of Blairsden, CA; three daughters, Bonnie Rose Short and her husband, Kenneth of Paonia, CO; Elaine J. King and her husband, Dean W. Exley of Carbondale, CO and Hazel Holdridge of Craig, CO; one daughter by choice, Betty Fern Davis of Nucla, CO; and one sister, June Littlejohn of Nucla, CO. Nellie is further survived by 19 grandchildren, 48 great grandchildren, and 32 great great grandchildren. Nellie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Asa Lee Bennett; one daughter, Betty Reed; two sons-in-law, Jerry Reed and Tom Holdridge; two grandchildren, Dale Reed and Shellia King; two great grandchildren, Cedes Short and Cassie King; two great great grandchildren, Joey Reed and Heather Head; and two sisters, Evelyn Garvey and Viola Graybeal.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Nellie's memory to the Nucla and Naturita Ambulance Fund in Nucla, Colorado 81424.
