George was the second of ten children of William Whitman and Christiana Steckel Whitman.

He grew up in Tinicum Twp., Bucks Co., Pennsylvania.

George was married to Juliana A. Nicholas on March 10, 1874.

George was a farm laborer and a boatman on the Delaware Canal. He resided in Nockamixon Twp. as an adult.

He passed away from cancer after an illness of six weeks.
