Verna Berry Powell was born June 18, 1918 in Fendley, Arkansas. She dedicated her life to helping others and found her calling when she became a Salvation Army officer in Shreveport, Louisiana. Even though she did not remain an officer for her entire life, she did work for the Salvation Army where she continued to do the Lord's work. Verna loved taking care of animals and in particular cats. She always said she wanted a Salvation Army funeral, and her request was honored, when she was "Promoted To Glory". Verna was buried with her bonnet as she had wished. She is survived by two children, Warren Powell and Vanessa Powell Williams, three grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
