WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. John David "Jay" Burge, 86, of Winston-Salem, passed away December 16, 2007, at Forsyth Medical Center.
He was born January 9, 1921, in Mingo County, W.Va., to the late John Amos Burge and Naomi Mounts Burge. He was a member of Waughtown Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was retired from Thomasville Furniture Company with 46 years of service. Mr. Burge served his country in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Callie Sprinkle Burge; a son, Johnny Burge and wife, Judy; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; and a sister, Irene Burge Collins.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2007, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel with Pastor Paul Riggs officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
