Bernard Ackerman
Bernard L. Ackerman, 94, widower of Elizabeth B. Ackerman, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, in Georgetown Memorial Hospital.
The funeral will be Monday, Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. in Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church. Officiating will be Dr. Eddie Usher. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.

Mr. Ackerman was born Sept. 4, 1914, in Cottageville, a son of the late Fred Richmond Ackerman Sr. and the late Leila Peters Ackerman.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp. and was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, attaining the rank of staff sergeant. He was a lifetime VFW member. He was employed early in his career with International Paper and later was employed with the former Loyal Motor Co. and the former Chandler Motor Co. He enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and building bird feeders as his hobbies.

He was a member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class. He was a former member of the Administrative Board and had also formerly served as treasurer of his Sunday school class.
Survivors include two daughters, Jamie A. Dennis of Pawleys Island and Sara E. Ackerman and her husband, William Nottingham, of Newberry; six grandchildren, Loring Nottingham, Patrick Nottingham, Andrew Jacobs, Margaret L. Pipkin, Allene Wiley and Ryan C. Dennis; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Glenn Ackerman of Hendersonville; two sisters, Marcie A Strickland of Walterboro and Elva A. Muckenfuss of Cottageville and a number of nieces and nephews.
