Ora S. Bartell
Ora Snowden Haselden Bartell of Hemingway died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008.
Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 27, at 2 p.m. at Hemingway First Baptist Church, officiated by her pastor, the Rev. Phillip Latta. Burial, directed by Morris Funeral Home of Hemingway, was in Old Johnsonville Cemetery.
Mrs. Bartell was born June 9, 1913 in Hemingway, a son of the late Samuel Disney and Mary Elizabeth Burrows Snowden. She graduated from Indiantown High School and Shuford's Beauty School in Hartsville.
She owned and operated The Vogue Beauty Shop for many years. Mrs. Bartell was a member of Hemingway First Baptist Church ant its organizations. She had been active in community groups including the Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Priscilla Book Club, Sunshine Book Club and the Vital Aging Program of Williamsburg County.
Surviving are a sister, Elise Galloway of Darlington; two daughters, Pat Huggins of Hemingway and Peggy Alexander of Chapin; a son, Wayne Haselden of Greenville; two step-daughters, Kay Bartell of New Orleans, La., and Carrie Bartell of Palmer Lake, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Genie H. Matthews, Hal Huggins, Tim Huggins, Rob Alexander, Mike Alexander, Sandy Lanclos, Greg Haselden and Amber Griffin; 14 great-grandchildren; and other relatives.
Mrs. Bartell was predeceased by husbands, A.C. Haselden and Clelmer Bartell; brothers, Earl Pearless and Toga Snowden; sisters, Sadie Snowden, Odessa Alexander, Eva Haselden and Mary Leitzsey.
