Mr. Gallilee, a native of Portsmouth, retired in 1978 from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a sheet metal worker after 38 years of service and served in the U.S. Navy Seabees during World War II. He was the widower of Lola Jane Gallilee, since her death in 1989.
Survivors include a daughter, Marie C. Harris of Moyock, N.C.; a son, Melvin J. Gallilee Jr. of Chesapeake; four grandchildren, Walter Allen, Daniel Meyette, Corey Cooke and Jatana Gallilee; and a brother, Raymond Gallilee of Portsmouth.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Foster Funeral Home, Portsmouth. Burial with military honors will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Friends may join the family Sunday from 3 to 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
