He was born in Hawkins County (Church Hill) where he had lived his entire life. Mr. Amyx retired from J. P. Stevens Corp. in 1981 with over 40 years of service
He was a member of Higher Ground Baptist Church.
Claborn was a loving husband to his wife of 57 years, the late Alice Short Amyx who died in 2004. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel W. and Vinie Minor Amyx; two sisters, Rachel and Hazel; five brothers, Henry Bill, John, Ray and Wilse Amyx.
Surviving are his daughter, Sharon A. Carr and husband Roger of Mount Carmel; two grandchildren, Teresa Conkin and her husband Robby of Fall Branch and Rebecca Monroe and husband Andy of Kingsport; a sister, Hallie Miller of Kingsport along with a special friend and companion, Margaret Taylor of Hiltons, Va and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call anytime at the residence of the daughter, 350 Chestnut Street, Mount Carmel.
Services will be conducted at 5:30 pm, Thursday, April 6, 2006 in the chapel of Carter-Trent Funeral Home of Church Hill with Dr. Phil Hoskins, officiating.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Graveside services will be conducted at 11am Friday, April 7, 2006 at Church Hill Memory Gardens with Dr. Shannon Salyers, officiating. Anyone whishing to attend the graveside service are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10 am. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
