Mrs. Mary Evelyn Adkins died Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Extendicare Nursing and Rehab in Dothan. She was 88.
A graveside service for Mary will be 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, in Memory Hill Cemetery.
Mary was born Oct. 6, 1920, the daughter of the late George W. Balcom and Minnie Lee Tice Balcom. She worked in retail sales for many years with both Sears and JCPenney. She retired from JCPenney in 1985.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Mitchell A. Adkins; two sisters, Marie Lou Mathis and Lyverne McSpadden-Godwin; three brothers, A.D. Balcom, Burl Balcom and Paul Balcom
Mary leaves behind to cherish her memories her son, Jim Adkins of Dothan; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special niece, Jerri Ann Kent of Hoover.
The family would like to thank the staff of Extendicare for the care and compassion Mary received during her long residence there.
