Obituary:
Ray Bishop was born July 11, 1926, in Heart, Ar, and died Oct. 23, 2005, at the age of 79 years. He was a veteran of World War II. He was drafted at the age of 18 and proudly served his country. After returning home from the war, he met and married Waydene Duke. They made their home in Salem, Ar. He worked for the REA for a few years before moving to Pontiac, MI, where he worked for General Motors for 30 years. When he retired he and Waydene moved to Palm Harbor, FL, where they lived for two years. He always longed to move back to his home. In 1986, they moved to West Plains. He soon became well known to many in the community. He turned a hobby and his love for shiny cars into a part-time business. It has been said that he could put a shine on a car like no other.
He was a loving and devoted husband to Waydene for 58 years. He was a loving and caring father to his two daughters, grandchildren and great-grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Waydene, of the home in West Plains, MO; two daughters, Dona Coatney and husband, Jim, of West Plains, MO; and LaJune Castro of Clearwater, FL; two grandchildren, Gina Hannah of Clearwater, FL and Brent Gruno of St. Louis, MO; one grandson, Andre Hanna of Clearwater, FL; one aunt, Veda Tharp of Mammoth Spring, AR; three sisters, Wilma Cochran of Kenosha, WI; Ruth Montgomery of Wiseman, AR; and Coreen Shrable of Gepp, AR; two brothers, Val Bishop of Saddle, AR; and E.G. Bishop of Oklahoma City, OK; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Gratis Bishop; one sister, Wanda Bishop; and two brothers, Marvin Bishop and Clifford Bishop.
