Son of James M. (b. @1817 in OH; 2ND LT, Co. D, 66TH IND INF) and Lydia R. Wells Davis (b. @1819); brother William H. (b. 1845; Co. A, 38TH IND INF) and sister Rosanna; married Miss Mary E. Moore on Aug. 21, 1861 in Orange Co., IN; enlisted as a SGT in Co. A, 38TH IND INF on Sept. 17, 1861; promoted to 1ST SGT, Oct. 1862; wounded at the Battle of Stones River, TN on Dec. 31, 1862; spent time recovering from his wound(s) in a Nashville military hospital; wounded again during service; mustered out Sept. 17, 1864.

Hobson farmed in Pike Co., IN after the war. He is listed as a resident of Spauldingville, Harrison Twp., Knox Co., IN at the time of the 1870 U.S. Census. He applied for a federal veteran's pension on Jan. 12, 1882 (app. #171,483; cert. #115,867 - Indiana). Hobson lived in Jefferson Twp., Pike Co., IN during 1900 & 1910 U.S. Censuses.
