Deceased Name: ALVIN R. BERTRAM DIES
Alvin R. Bertram, a retired pharmacist who had served as manager of the Begley's in the Lexington Medical Center for 18 years, died yesterday at his home. He was 58.
Bertram, a 1950 graduate of the University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy, had served as president of the Bluegrass Pharmaceutical Assocation and was treasurer of the Kentucky Pharmaceutical Association.
During his years as a pharmacist, Bertram received the Pharmacist of the Year Award, the Distinguished Kentuckian Award from the UK College of Pharmacy and the Bowl of Hygeia from A.H. Robbins Pharmaceutical Co.
The Wayne County native was a member of Central Baptist Church and had served as a deacon and a member of the church's finance committee.
Bertram, of 3137 Starling Drive, served in the Army from 1951 to 1953.
Survivors include his wife, Gloe Lovelace Bertram; his father, A.L. Bertram of Monticello; two sons, Lexington Herald-Leader photographer Charles A. Bertram of Lexington and Robert A. Bertram of Durham, N.C.; two daughters, Carol E. Bertram and Deborah L. Stevens, both of Lexington; and two grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Central Baptist Church. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at W.R. Milward Mortuary - Southland. Additional services will be at 2:30 p.m. CST Monday at Hickey Funeral Home in Monticello. Burial will be in Elks Spring Cemetery in Monticello.
