Caleb was born on March 8, 1770 in Taunton, MA. His father (Lieutenant Joshua Dean) and mother (Abigail King (Leonard)Dean) both came from old Massachusetts colony families. He married Anna Strobridge, and they moved to Claremont, NH. They had at least 12 children, but at least 6 of those died young including 4 who died within a 30 day span in August-September of 1803.
Caleb's son Luther married, then moved to back to Mass., and their first children were born in the east. Then they moved the family out west; first to Iowa where their last daughter, Grace, was born; then to MO, KS, and finally Kingfisher, OK.
Luther's children added the extra 'e' to the family name. They were: Edward Luther Deane; Col. Gardiner Andrus Armstrong Deane; Edmund Clark Deane; Maria Amelia Deane (died young); and Emma Grace Luthera Deane (married McAfee).
