Henry Augustus "Gus" Ashby, age 82, died Saturday, January 16 at Methodist South Hospital in Memphis. Funeral services were held Monday, January 18 at Houston Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Houston Cemetery with the Rev. Roy McHenry officiating assisted by the rev. Billy Lovell.
The son of the late Morris Gatman Ashby, Sr. and the late Sarah Barbara Sligh, he was a salesman for E C Blackstone for many years. He was a member of Van Vleet Baptist Church and was a Mason and Shriner. He was born in Chickasaw County.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Jean Allen of Olive Branch; one son, Gus Ashby, Jr. of Whitehaven; one sister, Mrs. Kate Woods of Starkville; five grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Larry Bonds, Larry Hester, Earl Carter, Tommy Carter, Tommy Clements, Terry Rhodes and Cecil Brock.
Houston Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
