Ransom Joel Brockett was the son of Benjamin Dutton Brockett and Sarah O. Tuttle. He married Elvira Elizabeth Bliss on 16 Sep 1873 in Salisbury, Herkimer County, New York. They were married by Rev. J. V. Ferguson in the home of the bride's father. They had just one child, Roy Ransom Brockett.

He went into the clothing business in Angelica in 1883, and later, in 1893, went into the insurance business. He also served as Justice of the Peace in Angelica for 28 years. Survived by son Roy R.
