Edward Sherman Hoelscher, 70, of Brooklyn Hospital, passed away this morning at McDonough District Hospital. He had been in poor health the past year and seriously ill for three weeks.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Brooklyn Methodist Church, the Rev. William Hilling officiating. Masonic services were conducted by Paul Stephens of Rushville, Grand Master of the State of Illinois. Burial will be in Brooklyn Cemetery with military rites at the grave.
Mr. Hoelscher was born Sept. 5, 1890 at Brooklyn to William and Melissa King Hoelscher, and was a lifelong resident of the Brooklyn community. He was a WWI veteran and was a retired farmer and building contractor.
He was a member of the Farm Bureau in Rushville and of Brooklyn Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge.
He married Golda Chipman, who survives, Oct. 7, 1915 at Quincy. They had no children.
He is also survived by his twin brother, Fred H. Hoelscher and one sister, Viola Hoelscher of Plymouth, brothers, Harlan and Florian Hoelscher and sisters, Mrs. Mell Tribbett and Mrs. Pansy Ayres of Macomb. Two brothers, Hansel and Mansel and one sister, Mrs. Esther Jones, are deceased.
Clugston Funeral Home in Industry was in charge of the services. Friends could call until the noon of Friday, and then the church in Brooklyn.
Uncle Ed was my Great-Uncle, my grandfather's twin brother.
