RUTH REED AMSDEN was born August 6, 1905 in Calhoun County, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Jessie (McDonald) Sylvester. She married Ralph Wheeler in July of 1927. They were later divorced. Ruth married Harry Reed on November 4, 1933. He preceded her in death in September of 1961. She married Irving Amsden on April 28, 1963. He preceded her in death on October 13, 1984. Ruth was a member of the Lanesboro Happy Hour Club and the Methodist Church. She died Tuesday, January 18, 2000, at the Western Home in Cedar Falls, Iowa, at 94 years of age.
Ruth is survived by her two sons, Jack Reed and his wife Donita, of Cedar Falls, and Dennis Reed and his wife Agnes, of Winterset, Iowa; a step-son, Charles Amsden of Phoenix, Arizona; a step-daughter, Clara Mae Flack of Colo, Iowa; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husbands; three brothers, Vern, Merle and Donald Sylvester; and two sisters, Eva Cox and Gladys Karn.
Graveside committal services were 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 21, 2000, at Lanesboro Cemetery in Lanesboro, Iowa. Memorials may be directed to the Cedar Falls Western Home, 420 E. 11th St., Cedar Falls, Iowa 50613
