Charles "Chuck" Dewey, 48, of Westfield, Iowa passed away Friday, July 11, 2008 in South Sioux City as a result of an accident.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron. Reverend Jean Morse will officiate. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Akron, Iowa. Visitations will be after 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2008, with the family present after 6:00 p.m., and a Prayer service at 7:00 p.m., all at the church. The Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron is in charge of arrangements. Expressions of sympathy can be extended to the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com.

Charles Lester Dewey was born January 3, 1960 in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Gene and Leone (Johnson) Dewey. His childhood began in Sioux City. At the age of 9, he and his family moved to a farm near Westfield, Iowa. He attended school in Westfield and graduated from Westfield High School in 1978. He attended technical school in Sheldon and graduated with a degree in heavy equipment operation and repair.

He worked as a mechanic for John Deere, Sioux City Kenworth, and most recently with Ziegler Cat. He also owned and operated West End Dirt Moving Company in Westfield.

He was united in marriage to Gloria Klemme Kowalke on July 14, 2007 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron.

He had a passion in salvaging scrap iron. He enjoyed his modeling railroad collection and playing cards. He also enjoyed boating and fishing with his family and friends. Chuck will be remembered for his sense of humor. He loved sharing his jokes with everyone. He was always there, giving hugs and helping out wherever he could. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria of Westfield; 2 daughters: Alisha Dewey of Iowa City, IA and Amanda Dewey of Cedar Falls, IA; 3 step-daughters: Dawn Kowalke of Sioux City, Carrie Gross and her husband Lee and their children, Hunter and Emily of Mesa, AZ, and Shana Kowalke and her daughter, Alyssa of Sioux City; his mother: Leone Dewey of Westfield; a sister: Ione Upton and her husband Jack of Akron; and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Lester and Amelia Dewey; his maternal grandparents: Charles and Elsie Johnson; by his father, Gene Dewey; and a brother: David Dewey.
