Lemuel Whitney was a son of Joseph and Anna (Palmer) Whitney born on 15 Aug 1784 in Warwick, Franklin County, Massachusetts, and died on 13 Jul 1860 in Foster, Bracken County, Kentucky, age 75. He married Sarah Pratt on 14 Aug 1804 in Warwick, Franklin County, Massachusetts, and together they had at least eight children: Diana, Malinda, Sallie, James Foster, Sophia, Cinthia, and Sallie (2).


The couple resided in Warwick a short time after their marriage and then migrated westward, locating first at Lima, near Genesse Landing, New York, in 1809. He was a soldier in the War of 1812 in the New York militia and was at the Battle of Queenstown in Upper (now Ontario) Canada, where he was taken prisoner. In 1815 he located at a place in Ohio, where he remained a short time, going then to Charleston, Coles County, Illinois, He finally settled in Foster, Kentucky, where he died. Both Lemuel and Sara are buried in Burkitt Cemetery, Bracken County, Kentucky. His head stone says, "Born at Warwick, Mass" aged 72 years 10 months and 28 days.


The couple lived in Warwick and Oxford, Massachusetts, Lima, New York, Charleston, Illinois, and finally in Foster, Kentucky.
