1st Lieutenant in Capt. Daniel Pomeroy's (1st) co., Col. Israel Chapin's (2d Hampshire Co.) regt. of Mass. militia;
Abner Lyman, Lieutenant: Commissioned 06 July 1778
"To Abner Lyman, Gentleman, Greeting. You being appointed 1st Lieut. of the 1st Co. commanded by Daniel Pomeroy 2nd Regiment of Militia in the Co., of Hampshire whereof Isreal Chapin is Colonel, by virtue of the power vested in us, we do thereby reposing special trust in your Loyalty courage and good conduct, commission you accordingly."
A note of correction: It is widely circulated that his wife was 'Lydia". Several DAR applications say the same. Recently I have seen Tabitha Brown listed as his wife, but she was married to his son, Abner, and was his daughter-in-law. His wife was Hannah Clark who is buried with him in this cemetery.
