Born July 17, 1922, in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late David Luther and Bessie Lyerly Kluttz.
Including her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Robert L. Hoffner; son Rev. Bill R. Hoffner; brothers Banks, Lamar, Glenn and Paul Kluttz; and sisters Pearl Kepley and Blanche Bogle.
Survivors include daughter Brenda Bernhardt (Michael) of Mooresville; daughter-in-law Carolyn Hoffner of Tybee Island, Ga.; foster son the Rev. Tom Corbell (Anne) of Statesville; brothers Arnold Kluttz (Lucille) of Woodleaf, J. Edward Kluttz (Irene) of Kannapolis; and sisters Beulah Hoffner and Willie Peeler, both of Salisbury.
Other survivors include grandchildren Andrea Tanner (Ben) of Columbia, S.C., the Rev. Alex Hoffner (Jenny) of Evans, Ga., Chad Bernhardt, M.D., of Encinitas, Calif., Sean Bernhardt (Stacy) of Wilmington, Kristen Corbell of Durham and Jennifer Hough (Michael) of Charlotte; and great-grandchildren Kati and Benjamin Tanner of Columbia, S.C., and Drew and Sara Hoffner of Evans, Ga.
Educated in Rowan County schools, she worked 53 continuous years at North Carolina Finishing Company.
Mrs. Hoffner was a member of Union Lutheran Church, Catherine Mahaley Sunday School Class, lifelong member of Women of ELCA and was currently a member of the Carrie Trexler Circle.
Visitation: 7-8:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 2 at Lyerly Funeral Home. Services: 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 3 at Union Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Howard officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
