Stanley R. Green, 85, of Battle Creek, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2008 at Battle Creek Health System. He was born on February 15, 1923 in Battle Creek to Raymond Alton Green and Eleanor (Nijak) Green Samulak. Stanley attended Southeastern Jr. High and Battle Creek Central High School.
He served in WWII for 2 years and 10 months with the 1st. Army-69th Division, Tank Destroyers in France and Germany. Stanley was employed by the Kellogg Company from 1942 until 1951. He then worked for B.C. Pattern Works and American Marsh Pump Company. He returned to Kellogg's in 1960 and retired in 1985.
Stanley married Gertrude C. Green on February 14, 1942 in Battle Creek, she survives. He is also survived by his sons, Gary H. (Jackie) Green and Gilbert S. (C.Jean) Green, both of Battle Creek; four grandchildren, Traci (Randy) Poe, Michael Green, Gordon Green and Lori (Edmond) Cochard and five great-grandchildren, Ashley Green, Shea Cochard and Chase Cochard of Battle Creek and Ciara Poe and Rachel Poe of Marshall ; and sisters, Marion (Richard) Roberts, of Union City, and Betty (Richard) Jacoby, of Sherwood. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Charles and Russell Green.
Stanley and his wife, Gertrude, attended Battle Creek Friends Church. He enjoyed camping, fishing, mushrooming, bowling, and family get togethers. He was a founding father of the Wattles Park Mens Club and was active in Boy Scouting.
Funeral service was held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Battle Creek Friends Church with Pastor Kelly Hadlich officiating. Interment followed at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions maybe given to American Cancer Society or Battle Creek Friends Church.
