The Mass of Christian Burial for Toribio "Toby" Encinias Jr., 67, a resident of Montezuma, N.M. who passed away on Christmas Day, was celebrated this morning at 11 a.m. from Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Father C. John Brasher celebrated the Mass. The interment followed in the Camposanto de Jesus, Maria e Jose in Montezuma. Serving as casket bearers were Magistrate Judge Chris Najar, Judge Matt Sandoval, Roberto Sena, Michael Miller, Jacob and Eric Knezevich. A rosary was recited on Sunday evening at Our Lady of Sorrows Church by Artie Geoffrion. Judge Michael Vigil delivered the eulogy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Toribio Encinias, Sr.

He is survived by his wife Reva Encinias of Montezuma, N.M.; his mother, Virginia Encinias of Montezuma, N.M.; five children: Gerri Jimenez and Steven Encinias both of Albuquerque, Lorene Encinias and fiancé Michael Miller of Las Vegas, N.M., Nathan Miles of Hobbs, N.M., and Alex Encinias of Las Vegas, N.M.; two sisters: Dorothy Knezevich and husband Howard of Las Vegas, N.M., and Sally Bicenti and husband Albert of Santa Ana, Calif.; one brother, Fred Encinias and wife Patsy of Montezuma, N.M.; four grandchildren: Malorie Encinias, Olivia and Sophia Jimenez all of Albuquerque and Donna Marie Reva Miller of Las Vegas, N.M.; and by numerous nephews and a niece.

Toby was born in Montezuma, N.M. on November 29, 1941, and graduated from West Las Vegas High School and the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy. He was a law enforcement officer with the City of Las Vegas and the New Mexico State Police. Prior to his retirement in 1997 he was a Senior Special Agent for the Inspector General at the Human Services Department for 25 years. He was a Past Exalted Ruler of B. P. O. Elks Lodge #408 and had lived a Cursillo. He was an active member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church and in his good health enjoyed fly fishing and was a boxing enthusiast.

The family has requested memorials in his memory be made to the Heating and Air Conditioning Fund Our Lady of Sorrows Church, 403 Valencia Avenue, Las Vegas, N.M. 87701, in his memory.
