Lucy M.(Phillips) Durgin was the daughter of Dr. Jeremiah Phillips, Sr., and Hannah (Cummings) Phillips. She was one of 14 children--11 living to adulthood. Her father and mother, as well as most of her siblings, were medical church missionaries with the Freewill Baptist church, her father going to the Orissa area in India when he was 23 yrs of age. Her mother died in India and is bur. there, as well as several other of her family.
Lucy married Frank L. Durgin in Hillsdale, Michigan, Aug. 6, 1877, by Prof. Ransom Dunn, D.D., Hillsdale College, from which she was graduated. Frank Durgin became a medical doctor. Lucy M. was Lady Principle of Parker College, Minnesota, from 1889-1897. They had made their home in this area. One child: Donald Phillips, Sanford, ME, May 24, 1884; also, a foster-child, Laura Hope Hill Durgin, 1891-1904, bur. Riverside Cem. Winnebago, MN.
