Burke McConnell was the 4th child born to Eugene and Clara McConnell on August 29, 1923, in Tatums, Oklahoma. He married Mattie Mae Carr in 1941 and was the father of 12 children. They also fostered twelve foster children.


In 1958 he was baptized in the name of Jesus in the Free Pentecostal Holiness Church in Tatums and was filled with the Holy Ghost and lived a holy life. He believed in being faithful to attend worship and was a great example to his family by taking them with him. Burke was a devoted father and loving husband. He enjoyed raising gardens and sharing the produce with his neighbors. He retired from the Fox School where he was employed as a bus driver and custodian. Burke went to be with the Lord on December 24, 2008 after a short illness.


Survivors include: 2-Sons Herbert McConnell and his wife Carolyn of Tatums, OK Stan McConnell and his wife Connie of Chickasha, OK


5- Daughters: Mattie and her husband Cecil Miles of Los Angeles, CA; Mae and her husband Dean Pennon of Tatums, OK; Joyce Gardner of Tulsa, OK


Clara Logue of Lubbock, TX; Audrey Clark and her husband Charles of Tatums, OK. 2-Brothers: Plez McConnell of Phoenix, AZ; Elmer McConnell and wife Mildred McConnell of Oakland, CA. 1-Sister Deva Mitchell of Boise, ID. 29-Grandchildren 30 Great-grandchildren.


Funeral services are scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church in Tatums, OK with Suffragan Bishop Sherman P. Tyler, Sr. pastor of Free Pentecostal Holiness Church and True Gospel Tabernacle Church officiating. Interment will follow in Tatums Cemetery under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home
